Мы, сябры Згуртаваньня беларусаў Канады, абураныя і шакаваныя хваляй гвалту, якая распачалася ў Беларусі ўвечары 19 сьнежня 2010 году, падчас масавага мітынгу на плошчы Незалежнасьці. Увесь сьвет абышлі кадры відэазапісаў жорсткага зьбіцьця мірных дэманстрантаў, у тым ліку падлеткаў, жанчын і пажылых людзей. У выніку гэтай гвалтоўнай “зачысткі” мноства людзей атрымалі траўмы, сотні чалавек былі кінутыя за краты.

Выбары прэзыдэнта, што адбываліся ў Беларусі 19 сьнежня, на вялікі жаль, ня сталі пачаткам новага этапу ў гісторыі краіны. Кволыя прыкметы перадвыбарчай лібералізацыі, на якія ўскладалі столькі надзеяў і жыхары Беларусі, і міжнародныя дэмакратычныя арганізацыі, аказаліся чарговым падманам., Разьвязаўшы вайну з уласным народам, дыктатарскі рэжым Аляксандра Лукашэнкі пераступіў усе маральныя нормы,. Абвясьціўшы сябе “пераможцам” і растаптаўшы права людзей на свабоднае волевыяўленьне, дыктатар ў чарговы раз прадэманстраваў, што ня лічыць агульнапрынятыя прынцыпы дэмакратыі нормамі ўласных паводзінаў.

Мы патрабуем неадкладна вызваліць арыштаваных кандыдатаў у прэзыдэнты Алеся Міхалевіча, Уладзімера Някляева, Віталя Рымашэўскага, Андрэя Саньнікава і Мікалая Статкевіча, а разам зь імі ўсіх затрыманых пры брутальным разгоне мітынгаў пратэсту 19 і 20 сьнежня 2010 г. Далучаемся да патрабаваньня правесьці паўторныя прэзыдэнцкія выбары без удзелу Аляксандра Лукашэнкі. Заклікаем міжнародную супольнасьць і ўрады ўсіх краінаў выказаць свой пратэст супраць дзеяньняў злачыннага дыктатарскага рэжыму ў Беларусі і не прызнаваць вынікі цынічна сфальшаваных выбараў 19 сьнежня.

Statement of the Belarusian Canadian Alliance

The Belarusian Canadian Alliance expresses its strong condemnation of a wave of violence towards opposition candidates and their supporters following today’s presidential elections in Belarus. The autocratic government of Belarus should be held entirely responsible for these deplorable actions against the civil society.

It is with deep concern in our hearts that we here in Canada have been following Lukashenka dictatorial regime’s warfare against those who seek to see Belarus a free and democratic European state. Blackmail, assault, illegal detentions are only some of the means that “Europe’s last dictator” has been using to remain in power. The entire electoral process of the past few months proved to be sham and hypocrisy in the eyes not only of people of Belarus. Those European institutions that have recently given Lukashenka a benefit of a doubt and lobbied for free and transparent elections in the country have to admit that the dictator has not changed a bit. Yet another election has been shamelessly rigged.

The Belarusian Canadian Alliance is urging the Government of Canada and all friends of Belarus to maintain their firm stance unequivocally supporting democracy and human freedoms in Belarus. Current support of wider international community is absolutely vital for those who fight against the dictator striving to bring a democratic change to Belarus.

Dear Members of the Subcommittee.

The Belarusian Canadian Alliance voices its strong condemnation of a wave of recent violence that Lukashenka’s regime used against the opposition candidates and their supporters following Sunday’s presidential elections in Belarus.

We are supportive of the concerns raised in the timely Statement of the Honourable Laurence Cannon about the election-day violence in Belarus.

As members of the Committee probably know, hundreds of peaceful protesters were brutally beaten, forcefully detained and are currently expecting trial in prisons in Belarus. Among those imprisoned are former presidential candidates Andrei Sannikov, Uladzimir Nekliayev, Vital Rymashevki and Mikola Statkevich. Uladzimir Nekliayev, as some of you may remember, visited Canada earlier this year and had a chance to speak to Canadian parliamentarians.
